Martin Miravalles receives the award for Best Original Music in the Open Category for the film Pandayunon

In a harmonious celebration of local cinematic talent, the Negros Island Film Festival unveiled a new accolade at this year's Sine Negrense Awards – the Best in Original Music category. The pioneering laurel found its home with the Open Category Film winner, "Pandayunon," directed by Jo-ane Pitogo.

The triumphant composition, "Bahala na ang Langit," crafted, written, and performed by Martin Miravalles of Mighty Hillamoon and Ian Mission, emerged as the inaugural victor. Miravalles, renowned for his adeptness in creating soulful Hiligaynon music with his band Mighty Hillamoon, added another feather to his cap with this exceptional piece.

Competing against stiff musical contenders in the Open Category, "Sueño" from "Añoranza," composed by Shantel Lapatha and penned by Zack Verzosa, and "Arsonist" from "Luna," with music and lyrics by Renzo Grijaldo, showcased the rich musical tapestry of Negros Island cinema.

In the intercollegiate arena, the Best Original Music award was claimed by the film "Laragway." The category witnessed fierce competition, with nominees including "Bulubaliskad" from the film of the same name, featuring music and lyrics by Crispel Jhun Ducay, and "Santermo" from "Panan-aw," where Martin Miravalles once again showcased his musical prowess.

The addition of the Best in Original Music category not only underscores the festival's commitment to recognizing diverse cinematic achievements but also elevates the importance of music in storytelling within the vibrant Negrense film community. As "Pandayunon" resonates with "Bahala na ang Langit," Sine Negrense propels the island's cinematic landscape to new melodic heights.
